Arsenal agree to pay £55m to sign 26-year-old star
Arsenal have agreed a £55 million package with Real Sociedad for the transfer of midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to The Athletic.
The Gunners are expected to make several signings this summer and they are currently on the cusp of landing their first in Zubimendi.
The 26-year-old ace has been linked with Real Madrid of late, but The Athletic insist that the Gunners have already secured a transfer agreement.
Instead of triggering his £51 million release clause, they have agreed to pay a higher fee of around £55 million over a period of several seasons.
Sociedad prefer the deal to be ratified in July for accounting purposes, and the Spaniard will therefore undergo his medical in pre-season.
Arsenal are expected to make multiple additions to the squad. Aside from a defensive midfielder, they are poised to land a marquee striker.
A versatile winger, a centre-back and a backup goalkeeper could also be purchased over the coming weeks, ideally before pre-season.
