Arsenal to announce new signing tomorrow
Arsenal will this afternoon announce a deal for 21-year-old Spanish centre-back Cristhian Mosquera, with the Alicante-born 21-year-old set to sign a long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium. Valencia had given Arsenal permission to speak to the defender at the weekend, with Mosquera flying to North London yesterday for talks.
Mosquera is currently undergoing a medical at London Colney and a deal is expected to be rubber stamped today, adding further depth to manager Mikel Arteta's defence. In signing the Spaniard, Arsenal hope to have secured a long-term option at the heart of the club's defence, and Mosquera will take up the position vacated by Takehiro Tomiyasu, who has been allowed to depart the club after reaching a mutual agreement with the Japanese international.
Mosquera has been with Valencia since 2016 and made his first appearance for the club's first-team in 2021. Since then, and 82 La Liga appearances later, Arsenal have opted to sign the defender in a deal worth 14.5 million euros and a further 1.5 million euros in bonuses.
Mosquera will wear the number 3 shirt vacated by Kieran Tierney, who also departed the club on a free transfer this summer, and has since returned to his former club Celtic.
