Newcastle United have agreed a £60 million deal for German striker Nick Woltemade, in a package that could increase to a total £65 million based upon appearances for the club. Woltemade joins from VfB Stuttgart, where the 6 foot 6 striker scored an impressive 12 goals in 28 Bundesliga games.
Prior to Stuttgart, the 23-year-old striker also had a spell with Werder Bremen and a loan stint with SV Elversberg. With two international caps to his name for Germany, the player will be hoping the Premier League spotlight will boost his prospects of a World Cup 2026 squad space for his country.
There continues to be uncertainty over the future of Sweden international striker Alexander Isak at St James' Park, but the former Real Sociedad has made it very clear that he will never play for Newcastle again and intends to move to Liverpool. A transfer fee has yet to be agreed, but many expect the price of Isak to be more than £135 million.
Woltemade has been signed as a replacement for Isak, and provides versatility as he can play as a striker or an attacking midfielder, and will give Newcastle manager Eddie Howe a welcome boost.
