Chelsea ready new contract for star midfielder

Chelsea are prepared to negotiate an improved contract with midfielder Enzo Fernandez amid his impressive campaign, according to Teamtalk.

The Blues have endured a poor season in the Premier League, and they are currently ninth in the standings with just 49 points from 36 matches.

The club are set to miss out on Champions League football next term, but they are still determined to keep hold of their leading players this summer.

Fernandez has been linked with a move away from west London for some time, and he has also personally talked up the desire to play for Real Madrid.

Chelsea suspended him for a couple of matches as a result, but he has since apologised and played a big part in the club making the FA Cup final.

The hierarchy are now prepared to sit down with the player's agents and are willing to hand him a wage hike to keep him committed to the club.
