Atletico Madrid planning shock move for Chelsea star

Atletico Madrid are planning a shock move for Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella this summer, according to Sport in Spain.

The La Liga giants are determined to bolster their defence in the next transfer window, and a new left-back is among their priorities.

It is now claimed that their hierarchy are closely monitoring Cucurella and could make an offer for the Spaniard during the off-season.

Atletico have reserved 50 million pounds for a quality left-back and are prepared to test the Blues' resolve for the Euro 2024 winner.

Chelsea currently consider Cucurella as an indispensable figure in the squad, and they are not contemplating his departure at any price.

It seems highly unlikely that they will change their stance unless Cucurella pushes for a summer move by handing in a transfer request.

If Cucurella can't be pursued, Atletico plan to turn their attention to landing Maxi Araujo from former Portuguese champions Sporting CP.

Araujo has also been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United.
