Mateus Fernandes has just chosen his next club

West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes has chosen to join Tottenham Hotspur despite the concrete interest from Manchester United, according to The Athletic.
The Portuguese has been linked with Spurs and United over the last few weeks, and it was reported that United could have the upper hand in the race for his services.
However, the opposite has happened. Spurs have agreed to pay the reported fee of 85 million pounds for the midfielder, and have also finalised a higher pay than United.
United were unwilling to meet the Hammers' transfer valuation, and Fernandes has now agreed to join Spurs. He will undergo his medical soon.
The news is somewhat of a setback for the Red Devils who were holding talks with super agent Jorge Mendes in order to convince the midfielder over the past few weeks.
They now need to explore a proper alternative on the table. There are no standout targets at the moment, but some could emerge in the next few days with pre-season coming up soon.
