Arsenal eyeing shock deal for French goalkeeper

Arsenal are eyeing a surprise free transfer for Illan Meslier, who has just been released by Leeds United, according to BBC Sport.

The Frenchman was Leeds' first-choice goalkeeper for several seasons, but he lost his starting spot after their top-flight promotion.

Meslier was the third-choice behind Karl Darlow and Lucas Perri last term and has now been released at the expiry of his deal.

BBC Sport claim that Arsenal have made contact with his representatives and see him as a potential replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Arrizabalaga was the Gunners' second-choice goalkeeper behind David Raya last season, but his future is uncertain at the moment.

Inter Milan have emerged as a possible destination for the Spaniard. The Nerazzurri seem prepared to guarantee regular playing time.

Arrizabalaga has a release clause worth £5m in his contract, and there is anticipation that the Serie A champions will come for him soon.

There is also interest from some clubs in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1.
