Manchester City explored a late deal for Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto before the transfer deadline, according to The Athletic.

The Cityzens had a superb spending spree during the summer transfer window and made the headlines on deadline day with the purchases of Enzo Fernandez and Iliman Ndiaye from Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Fernandez left the Blues after weeks of speculation, but the Blues failed to land a suitable replacement before the deadline after AS Monaco pulled the plug on a verbal agreement for midfielder Lamine Camara.

It is now revealed that Man City were likewise keen on landing Gusto from the Blues, but a deal did not materialise due to the hefty price tag.

Chelsea wanted at least £80m for the Frenchman, but the Cityzens had no plans to pay such a huge price to recruit the former Lyon man.

Similarly, Man City were priced out of a move for Chelsea winger Pedro Neto much earlier in the transfer window, as per The Athletic.
