Arsenal close to finalising new Mikel Arteta contract

Arsenal are close to finalising a new contract for manager Mikel Arteta, according to BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel.

The Gunners ended their 22-year wait for the Premier League title last term and have also started their defence in sublime fashion.

They have already picked up 12 points from their opening four matches and are considered frontrunners to lift the trophy once more.

Amidst this, there have been positive talks behind the scenes regarding Arteta's future, and a new contract could be sorted very soon.

The Spanish tactician's current deal expires in June 2027, but the club are increasingly confident of securing his future for the long term.

Negotiations are reportedly close to completion, and it could be a matter of time before the London giants confirm an extension.

Arsenal begin their Carabao Cup campaign in the third round on Tuesday night. The Gunners will be on the road to Ipswich Town.

Arteta is expected to make wholesale changes for the game.
