Man Utd striker gets surprise national team call-up

Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee has received a surprise call-up to the Netherlands set-up under new manager Xavi Hernandez.

The Dutchman has been a fringe player for the Red Devils and has not started a Premier League game for the Red Devils this campaign.

Despite this, he continues to be rated highly by the Netherlands and has been called up to the squad after an untimely injury for Brian Brobbey.

Brobbey sustained a serious hamstring during the Netherlands' draw against Germany and has since returned to Sunderland for treatment.

His injury has proved a blessing in disguise for Zirkzee, who could get the opportunity to lead the line in the next three Nations League matches.

Zirkzee was desperate to leave United at least on loan before the summer transfer window, and he is widely expected to push for a winter exit.

A strong showing for his country could generate more offers for him. Everton and Juventus are among his main admirers for now.
