Mikel Arteta confirms lengthy injury for Arsenal defender

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed a lengthy injury for defender Piero Hincapie following the 3-0 Champions League win over Lille.

The Gunners picked up a convincing win over Lille on Tuesday night. Jurrien Timber, Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze were the goalscorers.

After the game, Arteta was posed with plenty of questions and one of those was centred on Hincapie, who picked up an ankle sprain last weekend.

Arteta confirmed that the Ecuadorian's injury is indeed serious and he could be out of action for a number of weeks. He did not provide a timescale.

Hincapie has been a solid competitor to Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly at left-back. He has had a tough second year with the club.

The 24-year-old was struggling with a groin issue earlier this year, and he has now suffered another unexpected setback in a warm-down session.

It remains to be seen how long he will be out of action for Arsenal.
