Xabi Alonso sends message to Michael Carrick ahead of PL meeting

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has reacted to head coach Michael Carrick's situation at Manchester United ahead of tomorrow's Premier League clash between the clubs.

Carrick is currently under immense pressure after United went winless for eight straight games. He still has the hierarchy's trust, but may have to win soon to save his job.

Ahead of the game, Alonso said that he has great respect and big sympathy towards Carrick as manager, he told reporters: "I have great respect.

"I have big sympathy for Michael as a manager. Recently we played against each other in a legends game so we chatted a little bit."

The Red Devils have won their last two league meetings against the Blues, but they face a sterner challenge this time around.

They are on an eight-match winless streak in all competitions and anything other than a win on Saturday could pile more pressure on Carrick.

Carrick has been given the benefit of doubt from the hierarchy but another heavy defeat of any form could lead to his dismissal soon.
