Ince: we wont sign anchorman

Paul Ince, the Blackburn boss, has denied rumours that the club need to signing a holding midfield type player in the January transfer window, insisting that the club are happy with what they already have. Ince was quick to defend Vince Grella, who joined in the summer.

Rovers have been linked with a host of players for a January transfer move, but Ince has ruled out the need for such a player. Ironically, many would put Paul Ince in that mould when he was a player.

Ince said: "I wouldn't say we are lacking a Paul Ince on the pitch. You need characters.

"Vince Grella is the same type of player I was but he has been injured nearly all season. He has been a massive loss for us, as has David Dunn.

"You do need leaders when things aren't going well. Once we get those two back, we'll be all right. But Keith Andrews is doing well and Tugay has been unbelievable - he's making me think about playing again!

"He sat in the dressing room for an hour after the game at Pompey because he was so hurt and disappointed but that's because he cares.

"He doesn't want Rovers to be in trouble but we are where we are and we want to get out of it."
