Newcastle eye Dorin Goian

Struggling Newcastle United are believed to be ready to make a move for Staeua Bucharest defender Dorin Goian in the summer transfer window. Alan Shearer expects to bring in the Romanian to partner Fabricio Coloccini should the Toon stay up this year.

Goian is a wonderful defender; who is superb in the air and is a brilliant tackler. Arsenal had previously been linked with the Romanian, but a move failed to materialise.

Now Alan Shearer is ready to offer the Romanian club a £4.5 million prize to allow the defender to negotiate terms with the Toon. It is believed that Shearer is not yet convinced that the current options in defence at the Toon are satisfactory.
