Rangers notched one of the shocks of the round with a 3-0 victory over Lyon in a packed Stade Gerland. Rangers started comfortably and took a 1-0 lead into half time through Lee McCulloch. Daniel Cousin and Beasley applied the finishes to two second half goals.
It was a remarkable result in a battle with the French champions. considered one of the best teams in Europe. However, Rangers held their own throughout.
The French side hit the woodwork three times but Rangers defended stoutly throughout for a valuable three points. Lyon are currently top of the league in France, which will make the victory even sweeter for the Glasgow side.
Rangers stunned Lyon when they opened the scoring on 23 minutes. Alan Hutton broke purposefully from his right-back berth to win a corner and McCulloch rose to bullet home the near post delivery from Beasley.
Rangers defended deep for the rest of the half, hanging on to their precious away goal.
Rangers got their second with a nice run from Hutton and Cousin took a neat touch from the defender's pass before turning his marker and smashing a shot beyond Remy Vercoutre.
The result was secured when DeMarcus Beasley picked up the ball from Cousin and calmly placed it past Vercoutre.
What a night for Rangers, and their fans will remember this Champions League result for a long time.
