Gareth Barry signs for Everton

Former Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has successfully completed a permanent switch to Everton on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old who spent last season on loan with the Toffees, was out of contract following the expiry of his contract at Manchester City this summer.

Reports had earlier revealed that the England international was considering his options, with a host of clubs interested in his signature.

However, it is now understood that Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has managed to convince the talented midfielder into plying his trade at Goodison Park next season.

Barry becomes Everton's first signing of the summer.
