Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward reportedly pulled the plug on the transfer of Erling Haaland in January.

The Red Devils were tipped to sign Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg before the winter transfer window, but he eventually chose to join Borussia Dortmund.

According to ESPN, the Mancunian giants had agreed personal terms with the player and the transfer from Red Bull Salzburg was on the cusp of completion.

However, the move was blocked by Woodward at the final hurdle after learning of the excessive agent fees and the demand for a release clause which would become active in the summer of 2022.

On the other hand, Dortmund did not have any hesitation to meet those requirements and they eventually signed the Norway international for a bargain fee of £20m.

That has proved a shrewd piece of business of them, considering the striker has already amassed 21 goals from 23 appearances across all competitions. He has definitely boosted Dortmund's chances of winning the league title.
