23 September 2011 - 08:34

West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has called time on his international career with DR Congo, so that he can focus on his club duties.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • Mulumbu joined WBA from Paris St Germain back in 2009 and has firmly established himself as an important member of the first team.

Mulumbu has sent a letter to the DR Congo FA, announcing his immediate decision to retire from international football.

"It is with regret that I write to let you know about my decision to withdraw definitively from international football with immediate effect," Mulumbu wrote.

"This decision has been taken following long discussions with my family and medical advisers.

"I hope to have the opportunity to extend my professional career which is the guarantee for my family's security, by retiring from international commitments.

"It was an extremely hard decision for me to take, but I wish you and the whole team great success."
