Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has ruled out the possibility that he could ever take over as England manager.
Wenger has been linked to the England post in the past, with Fabio Capello leaving his post after Euro 2012. However, Wenger believes that such a post should only be held by an Englishman.
âI always said the national team needs an English manager and I will never change that for one minute," Wenger told The Mirror.
âIf a foreigner wins a European Championship, you will say somewhere it is not completely an English triumph.â
He was also upbeat regarding youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's chances of making it to the final squad.
âWe are six months before the tournament. If in March, he has made a big step forward, why not?
âThe mentality kicks in now. That will decide his career. I am positive about it because he can deal with the pressure.â
Wenger also reserved some praise for young right back Carl Jenkinson, who is still eligible to play for England despite playing for Finland at the U-21 level.
âHis fitness is outstanding, heâs quick, he has good crosses,â said Wenger.
âHe needs to adjust his defensive game but he is improving.â
