Ashley Cole misses Russia trip

Ashley Cole misses Russia trip

14 October 2007 - 20:10

Ashley Cole has been ruled out of England's crucial upcoming Euro 2008 Qualifier with Russia on Wednesday at the Luzhniki stadium. At the weekend Joleon Lescott came on for Cole, and Nicky Shorey had been mooted to replace Cole, but now it appears Luke Young may get a chance after being called up to the squad by Steve McLaren. Alternatively, Phil Neville may start.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • The injury to Ashley Cole adds to England's woes even further. Phil Neville is the obvious choice at left back for England, but the call up Young suggests he may get a chance in the side too.

Although the full extent of Cole's injury is not yet known, the damage is extensive enough for England coach Steve McClaren to rule the 26-year-old out of his plans for this week.
