Arsenal target Gourcuff staying at Lyon

Arsenal target Gourcuff staying at Lyon

10 January 2012 - 05:22

Arsenal look set to miss out on the coveted signature of creative midfielder Yoann Gourcuff. The highly rated Lyon player has been linked with a sensational 15m GBP move to the Emirates, but Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has scotched talk of a move to London.

  • Chelsea want to sign Alejandro Garnacho for £30m?
  • Chelsea agree deal to sign wonderkid for €40m

  • "The journalists writing that Gourcuff is on his way out are simply getting it wrong," said the president.

"He will be staying. I brought him here because I thought that with him in our ranks, we would have a side with added value, especially in the Champions League. He will be staying here, because with the Euros just around the corner, he'll have the stability to turn in an excellent season and get back on track."

The Gunners were linked with a move for Gourcuff last summer, at a time when the French international had been suffering with an injury.

Arsenal instead signed Mikel Arteta as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas, and Arsene Wenger has decided not to bid for the Frenchman.
