Newcastle 3-1 Spurs

22 October 2007 - 22:13

Martin Jol's future remains under threat - but surely is moving closer to being over at Spurs - as Newcastle defeated Tottenham 3-1 at St James' Park. Obafemi Martins, James Milner and Cacapa were the goalscorers, and Robbie Keane bagged a consolation.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • Newcastle remained eighth in the Premier League with 17 points, 10 more than Tottenham, which stayed in 18th — above only Bolton and Derby.

Obafemi Martins opened the scoring when he took a pass by Jose Enrique and scored in the 45th minute.

Sam Allardyce brought on Milner at halftime and Cacapa headed a 51st-minute corner kick past Cerny for his first goal for Newcastle.

Robbie Keane grabbed a consolation - his seventh goal in seven games - as Darren Bent headed the ball against the post and Keane was there to hit home.

Spurs went all out attack as Berbatov joined a three-man attack, and Milner responded on the counter attack to wrap up three points on 73 minutes.

It's surely looking ever closer to the end for Martin Jol, as Tottenham continue to sit at the bottom half of the table.
