  • The 23-year-old full back comes from the same footballing school as Thomas Vermaelen and Jan Vertonghen, and could now follow in their footsteps with a move to the Premier League.

The 6 foot 1 defender already has 19 caps for his country, despite having to complete with the likes of Vincent Kompany, Vermaelen and Vertonghen for a place in the Belgian international lineup.

Alderweireld joined Ajax as a youngster back in 2004, and has told his agent that he would prefer to move to the Premier League as opposed to Spain, where it is understood Real Madrid have been monitoring his progress.
