Arsenal complete Nacho Monreal deal

01 February 2013 - 06:40

Arsenal yesterday completed a deal for Spain international left back Nacho Monreal. The Gunners paid Malaga £10.5million for his services. Monreal will go straight into the first team as Kieron Gibbs is likely to be out of action for 3 weeks through injury.

 • "Monreal is a strong left-sided defender with good experience at both club and international level. He is a technically gifted player, a good crosser in the final third and strong in the air. Monreal will add quality to our squad and of course, to our defensive unit. We all look forward to him playing for us," said manager Arsene Wenger.
Nacho started his career with Osasuna, before moving to Malaga in 2011. He partnered the Gunners' star midfielder Santi Cazorla at Malaga last year. It is understood that Arsene Wenger has been monitoring the full back for several months.
Unfortunately, the 26-year-old is not available to play for Arsenal in the Champions League as he had already played for Malaga in the tournament this year.
