Chelsea join race for Mario Gomez

09 June 2013 - 13:14

Chelsea are the newest side to sound out Bayern Munich about the long term future for striker Mario Gomez. Despite the forward helping the Bavarian giants to an historic treble, the player has been deemed surplus to requirements.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • New manager Pep Guardiola is already making arrangements to replace the tall striker, with Robert Lewandowski expected to move to the Allianz Arena this summer.

Once the Polish international joins Bayern, Gomez will be allowed to leave and the player is not prepared to play third choice forward behind Lewandowski and Mario Mandzukic.

Napoli were one side interested in Gomez, but Chelsea are one of the new favourites to make an offer for the striker. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is not put off by the 28 million Euro pricetag that Bayern have reportedly quoted any potential suitors for the player.
