The La Liga giants have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder IIkay Gundogan who has been identified as a long time successor to Xabi Alonso. Reports suggest Real Madrid would make a move for the talented player in 12 months time as the Champions League runners-up have not put up a sale tag on Gundogan.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with the 22-year-old midfielder, who starred in Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League run last season. But the north Londoners are not the only ones to be impressed by his arousal, with Real Madrid and arch rivals Bayern Munich both taking note.
Having already sold Mario Gotze, and doubts over striker Robert Lewandowski’s future, the Bundesliga runners-up will be desperate to keep Gundogan.
This could tempt Real Madrid to wait until next summer when Xabi Alonso’s contact expires at The Berbaneu.
Reports in spain suggest Real Madrid are confident of signing Gundogan ahead of admirers like Arsene Wenger thanks to their good relationship with Dortmund's manager Jurgen Klopp.
