Liverpool have been monitoring the highly-rated Sporting Lisbon defender Thiago Llori since the end of the last season.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • Tiago Ilori’s move to Liverpool has reportedly come to a stand still following a fall out between the player’s agent and the club.

A sum of £3 million has been offered to acquire the services the 20-year-old centre-back as the Merseyside try to bolster the defence after the end of Jamie Carragher's excellent career at the club.

The Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been keen on the young Portuguese defender as he considers him as a long term prospect. His intentions is to strengthen the team at the back which was mainly the weak point last season and this is evident from the signing of Manchester City player Kolo Toure.

Born in London, Thiago started his career as a striker initially, but he shifted to Portugal early on in his career and has a contract with Sporting Lisbon till 2015.

However, this would be Liverpool's second blow in a week after having already been snubbed by Shakhtar Donetsk star Henrikh Mkhitaryan who publicly denied any transfer talks with Liverpool.

Arsenal, Liverpool are also said to be in chase for  Schalke's Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
