Manchester United close to capturing Leighton Baines signature

01 July 2013 - 01:10

Manchester United have come up with a second offer for Leighton Baines after their first bid was rejected by Everton. After having seen an initial bid for Everton full-back Leighton Baines turned down, Manchester United are ready to offer an increased sum of  £20m for the 28 year old England International according to the Daily Mail.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Manchester United's new manager David Moyes who is keen to raid his former employers knows that the Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright will only allow Baines leave Goodison Park for United if a sufficiently big offer is given and £20m offer may well be enough to induce the club to cash-in on the former Wigan star.

Patrice Evra had a mediocre season last season on the defence front and has been seriously associated with a switch to As Monaco, which would make a move for Baines a certainity.

However,Baines may feel a switch to Manchester United is not just about the wages but more about having competition at the highest level and the opportunity to test himself at Champions League level whilst trying to confirm the top priority to England’s starting left-back spot.
