Newcastle to make enquiry for Memphis Depay

Newcastle to make enquiry for Memphis Depay

06 July 2013 - 07:02

Newcastle United have plans to make an enquiry and hope to sign Dutch under-21 striker Memphis Depay. The 19-year-old is currently playing for PSV Eindhoven in his homeland but recent good performances have attracted the interest of several other teams.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Depay played regularly last year for PSV, as he finally forced his way into the plans of manager Phillip Cocu. The player is usually deployed as a winger, but has also been used as a striker in recent months.

The 19 year old had an outstanding season in 2011-2012 when he broke into the first team squad and scored 3 goals in 8 games in the Eredivisie. Last year was a less than rewarding season, with Depay scoring twice in 20 games. But Depay did show how versatile of a player he is, regularly playing on the flank and in the middle.

Newcastle scouts have alerted Alan Pardew and Joe Kinnear to the youngster's availability, as PSV are ready to listen to offers for the young talent.
