Gerrard Asks Liverpool To Sign Defenders

07 July 2013 - 19:45

Steven Gerrard has reportedly asked Liverpool to be focusing on signing defenders for the team to fill the void caused due to center-half Jamie Carragher’s retirement.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, has already completed the signing of Kolo Toure on a free transfer and he also targets Swansea City’s Ashley Williams.

Steven Gerrard admits that it would not be the same without Carragher, who he feels should have postponed his retirement. Gerrard, in his talks with the Liverpool website said:

“It will feel strange and it will be different. I’m used to hearing his voice from day one of pre-season”

“But he’s got other things that he needs to focus on; he’s going down the TV avenue and he’s going to be working for Sky, so we all wish him good luck with that.

“Of course, from a selfish point of view I wish he was coming back and doing one more season. Hopefully the replacements we get in perform well for us because they are certainly big shoes to fill.”
