Tottenham are reportedly all set to place an audacious bid for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke. Club manager Andre Villas-Boas values the player in the range of £20m, although Villa is strongly reluctant to sell him for anything below £25m.
The Sun reports that the Spurs are willing to participate in a cash-plus-player offer in return for Benteke, but Aston Villa are insistent on a cash-only deal. The Spurs are ready to allow one of Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Scott Parker, Jake Livermore and Tom Huddlestone to leave as part of the deal.
Benteke had earlier handed in a transfer request to his club and has not joined his team for their pre-season training camp in Germany. He is aware of other clubs’ interest in him but is understood to hold a preference for the White Hart Lane.
Tottenham are believed to be ready to offer him a weekly pay rise that would make his earning around £70,000 a week, in addition to regular first-team football, with Emmanuel Adebayor set to leave the club before the season starts.
