Man Utd to turn their attentions to Luka Modric

30 July 2013 - 07:40

Manchester United will make a move for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric. Manager David Moyes has decided to switch his attentions to Modric after seemingly missing out on a transfer for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • Man Utd are scouring Europe to find midfield reinforcements and last week a £40 million offer for former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas was turned down, now David Moyes has instructed his chairman to approach Real Madrid's Luka Modric.

Modric, who only joined Real last summer from Tottenham, had a good first season at the Bernabeu but is believed to have been told he must work hard in pre-season training to impress new manager Carlo Ancelotti. Real Madrid have already made a move for Asier Illarramendi in a £32 million transfer deal this summer, seemingly putting Modric's future in doubt.

The former Tottenham man has, in the past year, hinted that he would like to return to England at some stage of his career.

Manchester United are currently heading back from their pre-season tour of Asia, and when the team returns to England it is understood that David Moyes' top priority is to sit down with club chairman Ed Woodward and discuss potential midfield transfer targets.

Real Madrid have received an enquiry from Man Utd already, telling United that they expect to redeem substantially more than the £33 million that they paid for the Croatian international midfielder when they signed him from Spurs last summer.
