Kyriakos Papadopoulos nears Liverpool transfer switch

30 July 2013 - 11:54

Greek international defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos appears to be close to completing a transfer move from German side Schalke 04 to Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers made Papadopoulos his primary transfer target this summer, but has so far failed to persuade the Germans to sell their star defender. However, it is understood that Liverpool have had a 25 million Euro bid accepted.

 • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
 • Papadopoulos, 21, still has two years remaining on his Schalke deal, but has always hinted that he would one day like to move to the Premier League. The Greek international centre back has attracted a host of top flight sides over the years; with the likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan, Man Utd and Real Madrid all linked with an approach.
Schalke have always hoped to keep Papadopoulos, but now that the player is eager to make a move to Liverpool, it appears his time in Germany is coming to an end.
Brendan Rodgers will make the defender his highest paid player should he decide to move to the Premier League.
