Chelsea, Man Utd make offers for Claudio Marchisio

31 July 2013 - 11:30

Italian daily Il Corriere dello Sport has reported that Manchester United are considering a move for Juventus' star midfielder Claudio Marchisio, meanwhile Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is also understood to have shown interest in the Italian international.

  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Villa trip
  • Gabriel Magalhaes to sign new Arsenal deal

  • Manchester United have been unfortunate in their pursuits of a new midfielder for the coming season, having seen Thiago Alcantara join Bayern Munich and Cesc Fabregas has decided to stay put at Barcelona for the coming season.

It remains Man Utd manager David Moyes' priority to sign a new midfielder before the end of August, and Italian international Marchisio could be the next acquisition.

Having seen a reported €40 million offer for Cesc Fabregas rejected, the Red Devils will make a €30 million offer for Marchisio who has emerged as a long term target for the club.

The Italian international has been with Juventus since the age of 7 and has always insisted that his long term future remains in Turin, however the opportunity to play for one of the world's biggest clubs would be difficult for the player to turn down.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are also monitoring Marchisio's situation as there remains some doubt over the long term future of defensive midfielder John Obi Mikel, who has been linked with a move to Turkey.
