Arsenal Strong Contenders Even Without Reinforcements:Arsene Wenger

02 August 2013 - 16:47

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is still looking for new signings this summer but he strongly believes that his present team is good enough to mount a title challenge without any addition.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The French international was speaking on Emirates sponsored Google Hangout, where he showed confidence in his team and specifically the young players. Wenger believes that his squad will pose serious competition to his rivals in the next season.

"We are still working on improving our squad. But we have a base of young players, players who started in the Premier League with us, like Wojciech Szczesny, Carl Jenkinson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

"I believe my squad have a special bond and that they are on their way upwards, they are not over the hill, they will get better. I am confident we will be stronger next season."

The 63-year-old started the transfer season with a big transfer kitty but has failed to impress with his negotiations so far. His only summer success came with the signing of French youngster Yaya Sanogo. Arsenal is still looking to lure Luis Suarez to the Emirates but Liverpool are adamant on holding on to him.

The Arsenal boss revealed that he would get a certain advantage over the other new managers in the top-flight who would need some time know their squad.

"It gives me a slight advantage because I know my squad well," Wenger claimed.

"It will take my rivals some time to know theirs, except Jose Mourinho, who knows some of his from before.
