Manchester United Reject Second Chelsea Bid For Rooney

05 August 2013 - 14:24

Manchester United have rejected Chelsea’s second offer for unsettled striker Wayne Rooney. Chelsea reportedly tabled an improved bid for Rooney, after having their initial offer rebuffed by the Old Trafford side.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • A United spokesperson said on Monday that,

"A bid was received yesterday and immediately rejected”

"Our position remains that he is not for sale."

Rooney’s future at the Old Trafford has been surrounded by intense speculations after reports claimed the striker is “angry and confused” with his situation at the club. He was particularly infuriated by the comments of club manager David Moyes where he suggested that the English international is a mere backup to Robin van Persie.

Chelsea are currently touring America for the International Champions Cup but Jose Mourinho is so eager to add Rooney to his attacking front that he has asked club secretary Dave Barnard to stay back in order to lead negotiations for Rooney.
