Arsenal make renewed bid for Lars Bender

Arsenal make renewed bid for Lars Bender

18 August 2013 - 08:18

Off the back of a shock 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa yesterday, Arsenal's manager Arsene Wenger is set to make a fresh offer for Bayer Leverkusen's midfield star Lars Bender. The German side rejected a reported 16 million Euro bid for the Germany international in July.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • According to reports, Arsene Wenger has made a brand new offer of £19m for Bender as the Gunners look set to struggle for the new campaign having lost Mikel Arteta for a reported six weeks through injury.

Arsenal slipped to a 3-1 defeat yesterday against Aston Villa leaving Gunners' fans frustrated at Arsene Wenger's lack of transfer signings so far this summer, with Yaya Sanogo the only new addition to his squad.

Bender has long been a target for Wenger, but the Frenchman is not prepared to match the reported 28 million Euro pricetag that Leverkusen management demanded. Director of Football at Leverkusen, Rudi Voller, insists that the player is good enough for any team in Europe and will command a fee for the player that he feels is equivalent to the rest of the market.
