Fabio Borini told he will be staying at Liverpool despite loan move talk

27 August 2013 - 07:00

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wants to keep striker Fabio Borini at Anfield, despite the player being linked with a loan move away from the club. The 22-year-old has been told he has a role to play at Liverpool this season.

  • The 22-year-old has slipped down the pecking order since the arrival of Iago Aspas, with the Spanish forward preferred to Borini as Daniel Sturridge's strike partner. When Luis Suarez returns from suspension, Borini will slip to fourth choice forward.

Juventus and Genoa have been linked with loan moves for the former Swansea player, but Rodgers has plans for the forward.

"There would be a queue of clubs wanting to take him if he was available. We want to keep a strong group - it's a very long season for us.

"You've got Daniel (Sturridge), Fabio (Borini), (Iago) Aspas and Luis (Suarez) to come in a number of weeks. We want to make sure the competition in the group is there," said the club's manager, Rodgers.
