Rooney has no plans to put in transfer request

28 August 2013 - 00:01

Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney will not force through a move to rivals Chelsea by handing in a transfer request, it has emerged, as Jose Mourinho's "deadline" for Rooney to choose whether to move or not slowly comes to a close.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Rooney has repeatedly stated that he wants to leave Old Trafford since the start of the summer, but now appears to be toning down his behaviour and rhetoric, as he was included in the starting 11 against Chelsea, in the match that finished 0-0.

It is understood that he still has unresolved issues with Red Devils manager David Moyes, with clarity on his playing role and his place in the pecking order still among his concerns.

Moyes managed the Rooney in their time at Everton before Rooney was sold to United for a then record of £24m.

Mourinho has reiterated that he'll look for other players if his moves for Rooney fail to materialise before the deadline he set, bearing in mind that the transfer window shuts closed at 11pm BST on September 2nd.

Chelsea have been linked with a host of big name striker, with Anzhi Makhachkala's Samuel Eto'o leading the pack.
