Per Mertesacker opens new Arsenal contract talks

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to offer 29-year-old defender Per Mertesacker a two year extension to his current contract. The defender has been in inspired form this season helping his club to top of the league table.

  • Since arriving at Arsenal back in 2011, Mertesacker has gone on to play over 60 games for the Gunners and has recently struck up an excellent partnership with Laurent Koscielny at the heart of Arsenal's defence.<br />

    Manager Arsene Wenger has contacted Mertesacker's representatives to discuss a new contract with the 6 foot 6 German. It is understood that Mertesacker is hoping for an improvement on his current deal in London amidst the arrival of Mesut Ozil.
