Per Mertesacker opens new Arsenal contract talks

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to offer 29-year-old defender Per Mertesacker a two year extension to his current contract. The defender has been in inspired form this season helping his club to top of the league table.

  • Since arriving at Arsenal back in 2011, Mertesacker has gone on to play&nbsp;over 60 games for the Gunners and has recently struck up an excellent partnership with Laurent Koscielny at the heart of Arsenal's defence.<br />

    Manager Arsene Wenger has contacted Mertesacker's representatives to discuss a new contract with the 6 foot 6 German. It is understood that Mertesacker is hoping for an improvement on his current deal in London amidst the arrival of Mesut Ozil.
