Versatile defender Loris Nery on Arsenal radar

05 October 2013 - 08:06

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has instructed French scout Gilles Grimandi to watch Valenciennes' 22-year-old defender Loris Nery in action. The France under-21 starlet has impressed with his past displays in Ligue 1.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • It is understood that Grimandi will be in attendance at Valenciennes' game today against Stade Reims and they hope to catch the versatile defender in action. Nery is comfortable playing anywhere across the back line, but is most at home playing at centre back. It is this versatility that has attracted Wenger and it is understood that a bid could be made for the player in the January transfer window.

Arsene Wenger is currently still locked in talks with Bacary Sagna regarding a new deal at the Emirates whilst the Gunners are also hoping to find a player who can play as fourth choice centre back behind Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen.

Nery has struggled to force his way into Valenciennes' first team in recent weeks but recent poor form at the French club could persuade manager Daniel Sanchez to rotate his squad and give Nery a chance back in the side.
