Arsenal's out of favour defender Thomas Vermaelen could be heading for a January exit as Italian side Inter Milan prepare a reported £8 million bid for the Belgium international. Vermaelen is ready to quit the Gunners as he has slipped to third choice centre back behind Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.
The Belgian is desperate for regular first team football ahead of Belgium's preparations for the World Cup in Brazil next summer and previously hinted that he would quit Arsenal for more first team minutes if he is not reassured of first team opportunity by manager Arsene Wenger.
Wenger last week told reporters that Vermaelen is most certainly not for sale and that the Belgian would continue to fight for his place in the Arsenal first team.
Inter Milan are ready to test the Gunners' resolve though and will make a reported £9.5 million transfer bid for the former Ajax defender.
