Musacchio: a target for Manchester United

Mateo Musacchio linked with Man Utd transfer

10 November 2013 - 07:38

Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio is a potential target for Premier League champions Manchester United. The Argentinian international is being considered as a long term replacement for Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • The 23-year-old centre back is arguably one of Europe's best young defensive talents and has spent the last four seasons playing for Spanish side Villarreal. Musacchio very nearly joined AC Milan last summer but instead decided to stay in Spain to continue his professional development in La Liga.

However, Manchester United scouts have sent a glowing report to David Moyes regarding the defender, as Musacchio appears to fit the bill as a straight swap for both Ferdinand and Vidic. Whilst Man Utd have high hopes for Phil Jones at the centre of defence, they are still known to be looking for a defender to partner the Englishman and Musacchio could be that player.

The defender spent his early career playing for Argentinian giants River Plate, before completing a move to Villarreal over four years ago. The defender is famous in Spain for his tough tackling, aggressive style much like that of Serbian international Vidic.

Villarreal will reportedly command a massive 15.75million Euro transfer fee for the defender.
