Arsenal have reportedly been given the green light to acquire the signature of Wolfburg's Brazilian playmaker Diego after Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino denied interest in making a move of his own to land the talented star, reports Sky Sports.
The Brazilian international spoke out about his future a fews days back, by suggesting that the likes of Arsenal and Soutampton were keen on signing him up during the winter transfer window.
He expressed his willingness to accept a switch to the Gunners, should an offer come by , Diego said: “I know there is interest from Premier League clubs. I have heard Arsenal is one of them.
“It would be the ideal destination for me because their style suits my characteristics. Of course I would say yes to Arsenal.
“Southampton have great organisation and discipline and big talents like Adam Lallana. But again, there is nothing concrete.”
However, the Saints boss has closed the route for the player by insisting that he has not interest in his services, and this has opened the opportunity for the Gunners to sign the talented Brazilian.
It will be interesting to see as to whether the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will make a move for Diego, a player who was once rated as one of the best in his time with Sporting Lisbon, given the embarrasment of midfield talent the North London outfit have at their disposal.
