Chelsea to offer veteran trio new contracts?

17 January 2014 - 15:12

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is open to the possibility of sitting down and discussing a new deal with Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and John Terry. The England international trio have all been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge at the end of this season.

  • When asked about the chances of giving all three a fresh contract with the Blues, Jose Mourinho admitted that he is open to discussions. At the end of last season there had been talk of a departure for Frank Lampard and now the midfielder is set to extend his stay in London for another year, whilst Ashley Cole is also set to agree a new deal despite a lack of playing time.

Mourinho quipped: "The players want to stay if they are playing and feel useful, if they feel important in the team. The respect the club has for them is more than obvious. No pressure.

"We will do in the end the best thing for the club and the best thing for the players. The best thing is a result of communication, of changing ideas and feelings, but it will come naturally. It's different to last season, when John and Frank weren't playing. You could guess lots of things. At this moment it's all very calm. They trust us, we trust them. It's not about making a contract desperately tomorrow or next week. Very calm."
