Chelsea star to join Atletico Madrid on loan

Atletico Madrid are reportedly considered favourites to land the services of Chelsea's out-of-favour midfielder during the winter transfer window.

Spanish international Juan Mata, who has been constantly linked with a switch away from the Blues, is expected to make way from the club this month in order to stake his claim for a spot in the national side for next summer's World Cup finals in Brazil.<br />

The People reports that Manchester United are looking at signing the talented playmaker for a fee of around £20m, but Chelsea prefer to send the player to a foreign club.<br />

The report also claims that Atletico Madrid will sign Mata on a temporary basis, with a view to a permanent transfer next season.<br />

Mata has made just 13 appearances for the Blues in the Premier League this season, majority of which came from the bench.
