28 January 2014 - 12:58

Liverpool are eyeing a swap deal with Serie A giants Napoli. The deal could see Liverpool move for central midfielder Gokhan Inler and in return the Partenopei will get Reds vice-captain Daniel Agger who will reunite with his former manager Rafael Benitez should the deal go through.

  • Chelsea expected to sell striker after loan deal
  • Arsenal defender misses training ahead of Man Utd game

  • Liverpool are in need of midfielders to add depth to their injury hit squad whereas Napoli want a central defender to help mount a challenge for Serie A title and Europa League.

Reds Manager manager Brendan Rodgers has had previous interest in Swiss international Inler who operates in a similar role to club captain Steven Gerrad. And Agger has falling down the pecking order at Anfield behind the likes of Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure who the Northern Irishman prefers at the heart of his defence.

It remains to be seen when whether Benitez is willing to part company with his influential playmaker.
