Liverpool to sell Lucas Leiva to Napoli

21 July 2014 - 07:42

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva looks set to make a move from Liverpool to Napoli. Leiva's former coach at Anfield, Rafa Benitez, will pay approximately 12 million euros to complete a deal.

  • Leiva has battled to force his way into Liverpool's first team in recent seasons, but the performances of trio Coutinho, Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson have kept the Brazilian out of the first team.

Rafa Benitez had hoped to seal a deal for Leiva back in the January transfer window, but Liverpool decided against a sale and kept the defensive midfielder as they prepared for a title push.

However, Brendan Rodgers has now deemed Leiva surplus to requirements and a deal will be completed in the next two to three days.
