Chelsea boss spoke to Luka Modric about transfer

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has told reporters that he spoke to Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric regarding a transfer to Stamford Bridge. Mourinho coached Modric at the La Liga giants.

Modric has long been linked with a return to the Premier League, having already spent time playing for Tottenham. Chelsea are the most obvious candidates for his signature, with club owner Roman Abramovich a huge fan of Modric's talents.

Mourinho has now confirmed that he spoke to Modric earlier in the summer regarding a transfer move: "I spoke to Modric privately. You know I really appreciate Luka Modric and his qualities – but he unfortunately he wants to stay at Real Madrid."
