Liverpool to hijack move for Man Utd target

30 July 2014 - 12:10

Liverpool are reportedly open to making a move for Arsenal defender and Manchester United target Thomas Vermaelen this summer, according to The Express.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
  • The talented centre-back has been linked with a summer switch away from the Emirates, following reports that the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is seeking a suitable replacement for the Belgian international.

According to The Express, United have been deemed front-runners to sign the former Ajax star, but Liverpool are ready to hijack the move by matching the £70,000-a-week wages he gets at Arsenal.

The speculation has come about following reports that defender Daniel Agger is closing in on a move to Barcelona.
